Now in its 34th year, the AFI European Union Film Showcase continues its tradition of bringing the best in European cinema to Washington, DC-area audiences. This year's selection includes 53 films from all 27 EU Member States, 11 of the top contenders for this year's Academy Award® for Best International Feature Film and 13 U.S. and North American premieres.

Jonas Poher Rasmussen uses a visually dazzling range of animation styles to breathe life into the true story of his friend Amin Nawabi (a pseudonym), a young man who fled Taliban-ruled Afghanistan as a child refugee, went into hiding in Russia and ultimately came of age as a young gay man in Denmark, his adopted homeland. Can't get enough of European film? The all-access Passport gives you admission for one to every screening, including Opening and Closing Night and Special Presentations. At the end of the Showcase, you can see how many countries you "visited" by checking the stamps in your Passport.

Passport-holders have the opportunity to reserve a seat, either by email or in person, for each film you wish to attend. Advance reservations are strongly recommended. Walk-up admissions for passport-holders on the day of a screening will be accepted based on availability but are not guaranteed.
