Accessibility

The AFI Silver Theatre offers a comfortable and accessible environment for visitors with disabilities to embrace the big screen and fully enjoy a one-of-a-kind film experience.

Accessible Entrances and Seating

The theater features automatic doors to the Historic Lobby and Atrium (Café) entrances, as well as accessible restrooms. There are no steps to access the main part of the building.

All three theaters on site offer accessible seating.

  • The historic theater, Silver I, is completely raked and offers wheelchair accessible seating with companion seating in various parts of the theater.
  • Silver II and IIIare smaller theaters with stadium seating; both include wheelchair accessible and companion seats. In both Silver II and Silver III, patrons enter the auditoriums on the first level where the accessible seats are located.

Hearing and Visual Accommodations

Assistive Listening Devices: The theater can provide Assisted Listening Devices (ALDs) with volume control for every film upon request. These devices may also be used for Descriptive Audio (DA/VI), if supported by the film. Cupholder-style closed captioning devices can also be provided upon request, if supported by the film. (Please note that not all films support these devices.) Supply is limited for all assistive devices, but we aim to accommodate everyone.

Open Captions and Subtitles: When available, select screenings of first run and repertory films will be played with Open Captioning, featuring captions projected onto the screen. Open-captioned screenings are labeled on our calendar and are noted on the film page with an [OC] symbol next to the showtime.

All foreign-language films will have subtitles onscreen when non-English dialogue is spoken.

Sensory-Friendly Accommodations

At the current time, AFI Silver does not offer sensory-friendly film showings. We recommend our “Silver Babies” screenings, which feature accommodations for children and their caregivers, as the best option for those who are sensitive to high volume and dark theater spaces. At these screenings, theater lights remain dimly lit throughout the show, and the volume will not exceed a comfortable level.

“Silver Babies” screenings are labeled on our calendar and are noted on the film page with a baby carriage symbol next to the showtime.

Parking

Accessible parking can be found in the Wayne Avenue Garage and the Town Square Garage on Ellsworth. Both garages are located within a block of the theater. Drop off in front of the theater is also permitted. More information on parking options can be found here.
