The Educational Screenings Program provides the link between school curricula with the film, video, and print materials AFI can access. Teachers bring their students for free to AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center to view films related to their curriculum, engaging them with their academic subject matter while learning critical viewing skills. Each screening includes a reading/lesson with discussion questions, a glossary of film terms, and an assignment customized to the needs of the teachers' objectives. Also, AFI Silver's educational staff will conduct pre- and post-film discussions, as well as a tour of the historic theater.
Metro-area students and their teachers of all grade levels, subject areas and abilities are eligible. To date, more than 100,000 students from greater Washington public and private schools have participated in AFI Silver's Educational Screenings Program.
What AFI Silver will provide:
- An experienced educator and AFI support staff to work with teachers to select an appropriate film and create the lesson support materials such as readings, worksheets, speakers and teaching guides. Each screening is customized to the needs and objectives of the curricular connections.
- The film for screening in one of the three theaters at AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center
- $200 to offset bus rental fees, if necessary
