THE IMITATION GAME
Introduction by Major General Buster Howes, Royal Marines, British Defence Attaché, Washington, DC
Benedict Cumberbatch gives a stirring performance as Alan Turing, the British
mathematician and cryptologist who led the top-secret team of code-breakers housed at Bletchley Park. His genius, perseverance in the face of hopeless odds and creation of a device able to calculate far faster than any human — an important prototype for today’s computers — helped the Allies crack the Nazi’s Enigma Code and decisively turned the tide to help them win WWII. Yet just a few years later, Turing was convicted in 1952 of gross indecency — persecuted as a homosexual by the country he did so much for — under by-now antiquated laws which were then still very much on the books. With Keira Knightley, Matthew Goode, Mark Strong, Charles Dance, Allen Leech, Rory Kinnear and Tuppence Middleton. Directed by Morten Tyldum (HEADHUNTERS). People’s Choice Award, 2014 Toronto Film Festival.
