LINES OF WELLINGTON [Linhas de Wellington]
Raúl Ruiz died before he could complete this follow-up to his acclaimed MYSTERIES OF LISBON. Fortunately, his wife, Valeria Sarmiento, stepped in to finish the sprawling, textured account of a defining moment in Portugal's history. In 1810, the Duke of Wellington (John Malkovich) leads an Anglo-Portuguese battalion against the French army. The Portuguese countryside devastated, Wellington retreats to Lisbon, hoping to trap the French at Torre Vedras. The ensemble cast includes Isabelle Huppert, Catherine Deneuve, Michel Piccoli, Mathieu Amalric, Marisa Paredes, Melvil Poupaud, Nuno Lopes and Vincent Perez. Official Selection 2012, Venice, Toronto, New York Film Festivals.
