TABU
A playful and poetic ode to love lost and found. After aging grande dame Aurora, a shut-in in her Lisbon apartment, falls ill, she sends a message to an elderly gentleman across town, Gian Luca. Here the film shifts from the present day into a stylized silent film homage, narrated by Gian Luca, relating the story of Aurora's experiences as a young bride in 1950s colonial Mozambique, and the love affair they shared – his recollections providing the cinematic lamp light for this whimsical, transporting movie-within-a-movie. Alfred Bauer Award and FIPRESCI Prize, 2012 Berlin Film Festival; Official Selection, 2012 Karlovy Vary, Toronto and New York Film Festivals.
