SÜSKIND

Based on true events. In 1942 Amsterdam, German-born Jew Walter Süskind, having left the country of his birth for his family's ancestral home in the Netherlands after the Nazis came to power, ironically finds himself on the local Jewish Council, organizing the orderly deportation of Dutch Jews. Fluent in German, Süskind is tapped to act as liaison to the local SS commander (Karl Markovics, THE COUNTERFEITERS). Despite the horror he faces daily, and its attendant fear and humiliations, Süskind leads a secret coalition of Council members, street hustlers and Dutch resistance fighters to help hide and smuggle to safety some 600 Jewish children.
