The new film from Joachim Lafosse is a rigorously observed chronicle of a young woman's psychological unraveling. In a Brussels suburb, Émilie Dequenne (Best Actress, 2012 Cannes' Un Certain Regard section) falls hard for Moroccan immigrant Tahar Rahim. The two marry and move into the house of Rahim's surrogate father, wealthy doctor Niels Arestrup. Over the years the young couple's family grows, but the family dynamics between husband, wife and Arestrup's patriarch become increasingly fraught with power struggles and identity crises.
