THE DELAY [La Demora]
2012 Oscar Submission for Best Foreign Language Film, Uruguay
Set in a wintry Montevideo, Uruguay, the latest film from Mexican director Rodrigo Plá (THE DESERT WITHIN, THE ZONE) sensitively explores family bonds pushed to the point of breaking. Harried, hard-working single mom María barely has a moment to herself between working in a garment factory, taking sewing jobs on the side, and caring for her three young children plus her 80-year-old father Agustin, who is senile and increasingly fragile. Unable to get Agustin placed in a proper elder-care facility and feeling overwhelmed, María makes a desperate move to remedy her increasingly untenable position. Ecumenical Jury Prize, 2012 Berlin Film Festival.
