JUAN OF THE DEAD [Juan de los muertos]

A madcap mashup of blood, guts and satire, this zombie comedy from Alejandro Brugués (PERSONAL BELONGINGS, 2008 AFI Latin American Film Festival) has been a film festival stalwart, earning audience awards across the globe. After a zombie plague breaks out in Havana, the media downplay
it as isolated incidents and the work of US-backed dissidents. With something rotten (and shuffling about) in the state of Cuba, it falls to lazybones Juan to turn entrepreneur; he starts a zombie disposal business, which mercifully (though not gently) puts your loved ones out of their walking-dead misery. Official Selection, 2011 Toronto Film Festival, Fantastic Fest; 2012 Miami, Los Angeles Film Festivals. DIR/SCR Alejandro Brugués. Cuba/Spain, 2011, color, 94 min. In Spanish with English subtitles.
